Page 14 POST-GAZETTE, JANUARY 17, 2014 NEWS BRIEFS (FROM ITALIAN NEWSPAPERS AND OTHER PUBLICATIONS) Compiled by Orazio Z. Buttafuoco RISOTTO WITH RADISH VS. RISOTTO WITH MUSH- ROOMS! An original "Risotto Contest." competition took place at the Aroma Restaurant in New York's East Village between Lorenza, of Tuscan origin and a Californian Korean lady called Susan. Lorenza presented a risotto dish with red radish and with whipped cream, while Susan introduced a risotto dish with fresh mushrooms and some of Asia's aromatic herbs. The jury of 7 people found the risotto with the red radish to be the winner with 33 points, as opposed to the other risotto which got 30 points. Members of the jury explained that the risotto with the radish ... was cooked 'al dente' and with a kind of 'exotic taste'! A SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY BY AN ITALIAN SCIENTIST WORKING IN NEW YORK. Dr. Antonio Iavarone is an Italian research scientist at Columbia University, the leader of a research group that has discovered a drug that affects tumors. Iavarone was born in Benevento, Italy and has been working in the States for many years. He left Italy because of several incidents caused by nepotism. Iavarone's research on tumors has catapulted him to the second spot in the world's standing. Iavarone's discovered drug, which helps to neutralize the most aggressive tumors in the brain is called 'FGFR-TACC,' the glioblastoma which do not exist in the organism under normal conditions. The discovery happened while Iavarone was doing an analysis of the DNA's map of a tumor and it is present in 3% of the patients afflicted by the glioblastoma. The researchers are aiming their attention to the genetic alterations on those afflicted with glioblastoma. Stay tuned! IS CATHOLICISM IN THE FUTURE OF THE BRITISH MONARCHY? Prince Charles is worried for the future of the British Monarchy. His concerns began after changes were made in the laws of succession. To make Charles very worried is not so much the change in the succession rules, which do away with the discrimination vis-a-vis the female heirs, making them equal to the male heirs, but the elimination of the old rule that prohibited the mar- riage to Catholics for any member of the royal family. Charles is also upset by the fact that he was never approached and informed by the Government before deci- sions were made. Prince Charles fears that if a member of the royal family married a Catholic, and a son was born, he may be raised in the Catholic faith, as by the Canon Law. It would be a disaster with the royal family, even though there is no adverse feeling against Catholics. It is impor- tant to keep in mind that the British Monarch is also the Head of the British Religion. More worrisome is the situa- tion when the son of a mixed-religion couple may become the sovereign! The political salons of Whitehall have found the answer to this eventuality: the question ought to be resolved with the Vatican! Prince Charles has reacted to such eventuality with utter terror! The 64-year-old prince (2013) may never leave his offi- cial residence (Clarence House) to move to Buckingham Palace. His mother Queen Elizabeth II has no intention to abdicate at this time. The reason? She is enjoying a new popularity!
