I POST-GAZETTE, JANUARY 23, 2015 Page9 THE ITALIAN AMERICANS at the A Four Hour Documentary Film Consul General DeSantis and Frank Pasciuto are joined by Colonel (MA) Dean Saluti and his wife Marjorie Cahn. Dean is a retired U.S. Army Colonel and member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company. He is also the President of the Renaissance Lodge of the Sons of Italy. Marjorie is a state officer of the Sons of Italy, serving as the treasurer of the Benefit Insurance Commission. Dean and Marjorie were proud to serve as representatives of the "Massachusetts Order Sons of Italy" at this gala. Premiering on February 17, 2015 on PBS stations nation- wide, The Italian Americans, narrated by Stanley Tucci, ex- plores the evolution of Italian Americans from the late 19~ Century to today, from "outsiders" once viewed with suspi- cion and mistrust, to some of the most prominent leaders of business, politics and the arts today. Award winning writer/producer John Magglo (Billy the Kid, Boy in the Bubble) presents a portrait of Italian American life that includes interviews with Tony Bennett, John Turturro, Gay Talese, Representative Nancy Pelosi and Associate Justice Antonin Scalia, among others. The Italian Americans peels away myths and stereotypes to reveal a world uniquely Italian and uniquely American. The Italian Americans uncovers how Italian immigrants challenged the notion of the American "melting pot" -- chronicling four generations of Italian-American lives, from the :massive late 19th Century wave of immigration to today. From the importance of the family over an individual's per- sonal aspirations, to their distinctive, circular migration patterns, to the specter of the Mafia that still plagues Ital- ian Americans today, this series peels away myths and stereotypes to reveal a world uniquely Italian and uniquely American. Among the various venues that evening, was a spec- tacular military dignitary event, hosted by the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, with restaurateur Brigadier General Joe Milano, owner of Boston's fa- mous Union Oyster House, as the chairperson. Briga- dier General Mflano not only planned and executed all facets of the evening, but he also served as the MC. Res- taurateur Donato Frattaroli, owner of Lucia's Restaurant and member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Com- pany, served as part of the Honor Guard. Our new Lieutenant Gov- ernor, Karyn Polito, has been a member of the Worcester Lodge of the Sons of Italy for many years. Her husband, Stephan Rodolakis, is a member of Boston's Renaissance Lodge of the Sons of Italy. Karyn and Stephan have been active in and supportive of Italian organizations. It was good to see Boston's Italian Consul General, Nicola DeSantis, at the cel- ebration in support of our new Governor and Lieuten- ant Governor. As a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, Frank Pasciuto, Sr., served as the Italian Consul General's military escort. Frank is the former chairman of the board of the Don Orione Home, a recipient of the presti- gious PirandeIIo Lyceum "I Migliori" award, and a mem- ber of the Knights of Malta.
