POST-GAZETTE, JANUARY 29, 2010 Page 5 A Message from ... Consolato Generale d'Italia Ufficio Scolastico Boston, Massachusetts Dear Friends, I am glad to share the following press release concerning the allocation of (US) $500,000 by the Government of Italy in support of maintaining the Ad- vanced Placement Program in Italian language and culture. This important goal was made possible in Italy thanks to the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Washington. This effort has been significantly sus- tained by major Italian American orga- nizations too. We sincerely hope that this significant commitment will con- tribute to reinstate the advanced place- ment Italian program in schools soon. Also thanks to the contacts that the Em- bassy of Italy -- in collaboration with the Conference of Presidents of the Italian- American organizations -- have already started with the College Board and that will continue in the coming weeks. I will make sure to keep you updated about this situation. I wish to thank everyone for their con- tinuous and passionate support that you are giving to the Italian language and culture. Cordialmente, Carlo CipoUone Massport Supports its Guard and Reserve Employees VEGAS HERE HE COMES by Sal Giarratani The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) joined thousands of employers across the nation who have pledged their support for the National Guard and Reserve when Massport's CEO & Executive Director Thomas J. Shown in photo with Joe is Joanne Belmonte who says, "She can hardly believe the news." (Photo by Sal Giarratani) I said my goodbyes to Joe Cool at Contrada's on Sunday, January 17. He was flying out on the Monday holiday to Las Vegas. What will the North End do without the wit and wisdom of Joe Cool? This news will certainly mean that Salutation Street's going to be pretty quiet now, eh?
