BOX 135, BOSTON, MA 02113 Attn: Legal Notices Sparky's Number to be Retired The Detroit Tigers will retire Sparky Anderson's # 11 this season, one of many tributes the team is planning to honor the late manager who passed away on Novem- ber 4. The Tigers' players will be wearing a commemora- tive patch to honor the Hall of Fame manager who led the Tigers to the 1984 World Series championship. Anderson was also the Iongtime Cincinnati Reds manager and took the Reds to two World Series victo- ries. His number is already retired in Cincinnati. Tampa Bay Picks Up Damon and Manny The Tampa Bay Rays have picked up former Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon and signed him up for $5.25 million for 2011. He'll be joined by Manny Ramirez who came over to the Rays in a Boras package deal and was signed for $2 million which is $18 million less than he earned in 2010. He will be used mostly as a DH. Damon looks like the team's opening day left fielder but the team probably hopes he can keep Manny from being Manny too much, too. When it comes to Johnny, I wish him luck, but when it comes to Manny, I wish Tampa Bay "rots" of luck. Votto and Reds Agree on Three Year Deal Slugging first baseman Joey Votto who powered the Cincinnati Reds to their first playoffs in 15 years, winning the NL MVP Award, agreed to a $38 million, three-year deal, thus giving the NL Central champs some short- term budget security. Votto, PRAYER TO ST; JUDE May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be adored, glorified, loved and pre- served throughout the world now and forever. Sacred Heart of Jesus pray for us. St. Jude, worker of miracles, pray for us. St. Jude, help of the hopeless, pray for us. Say this prayer 9 times a day and by the 8th day your prayers will be answered. It has never been known to fail. Publication must be promised. My prayers have been answered. P.M. LEGAL NOTICE Commonwealth of Massachusetts The Trial Court Middlesex Probate end Family Court 208 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA 02141 Docket No. MI11P0300EA In the Estate of GLEN A DOBSON Late of NORTH READING, MA 01864 Date of Death December 17, 2010 NOTICE OF PETITION FOR APPOINTMENT OF ADMINISTRATOR To all persons interested in the above captioned estate, a peon has been presented requesting that DANIELLE N CARLSON of Litchfield Park, AZ or some other suitable person be appointed administrator of said estate to serve With Personal Surety. IF YOU DESIRE TO OBJECT THERETO, YOU OR YOUR AI-rORNEY MUST FILE A WRITTEN APPEARANCE IN SAID COURT AT CAMBRIDGE ON OR BEFORE TEN O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING (10:00 AM) ON FEBRUARY 24, 2011. WITNESS, HON. PETER C. DiGANGI, First Justice of this Court. Date: January 26, 201 t Tara E. DeCristofaro, Register of Probate David R. Lucas, Esq. Nigro, Pettegit & I.ucas, LLP 649 Main Street Wakefield, MA 01880 Run date: 2/4/11 EXTRA Innings by Sal Giarratani 27, became a first time All- Star last season and fin- ished second in the NL in batting average at .324, also had 37 home runs and 113 RBIs. Votto is also swift, cap- turing 16 stolen bases in 21 attempts. He made $525,000 in 2010 and was eligible for arbitration. It's been quite a while since the Reds had an authentic slugger in the line-up. Yankees Sign Jones Former Atlanta Braves slugger Andruw Jones who also played for the LA Dodg- ers and Chicago White Sox has just signed a $2 million, one-year deal with the NY Yankees. The 33-year-old Jones is being brought on as a right-handed backup to Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher. After hitting 51 home runs for the Braves in 2005 and 41 in 2006, his career took a nose dive. He dropped to 26 in 2006 and 3 in 2007. He rebounded somewhat in Chicago hit- ting 17 and 19 homers over two seasons. Price is Top Lefty Tampa Bay Rays starter David Price won the Warren Spahn Award as the top lefty in baseball. Price went 19-6 with a 2.72 ERA in 2010. Wake to Pen Tim Wakefield is return- ing for another season at Fenway. He'll be in the bullpen. He still wants to reach 200 wins lifetime, but this goal gets more difficult with time. Wakefield was just honored at the Boston Baseball Writers Dinner by winning the Roberto Clemente Humanitarian Award from MLB. He has one year left on his contract. Last year was not a great year for him bouncing back and forth from the starting rotation to the pen. When asked if 2011 was his finale, he stated, "I don't know." However at 44 years old, the writing does seem on the wall. He still is seven wins shy of 200 wins and 13 wins short of tying Cy Young and Roger Clemens for the Red Sox mark of 192. Personally, I'd like to see him become a 200 game winner. I would also like to see him get to 193 wins with the Sox to put the Rocket in second place. Beltre Goes to Texas The Texas Rangers signed up former Red Sox third baseman Adrian Beltre to a 6-year, $96 million contract. Beltre by the way was given the Tom Yawkey Award as Red Sox MVP for his great 2010 season by the Boston Baseball Writers Association. C-town Little League Sign-up The Charlestown Little League will hold pre-season practice sessions on Tues- days at the Charlestown Community Center begin- ning March 1. All players participating in these ses- sions must be members of the Center.. Membership is free and applications are available at the gym. Twins Keep Pavano Carl Pavano is going back to the Twins with a $16.5 million, two-year deal. Last season, Pavano helped carry the Twins win the AL Cen- tral title by.going 17-11 with a 3.75 ERA and seven com- plete games. Hartsfield 1 = Blue Jays Skipper Passes Away Roy Hartsfield, the first Toronto Blue Jays manager and there for three seasons has passed away at age 85. Back in his playing days, he was with the Boston Braves from 1950 until 1952. A sec- ond baseman, he finished with a .273 career batting average and 13 homers. Hartsfield then coached or managed in the minors, in- cluding 19 years with the LA Dodgers organization. He was picked to be the Blue Jays' manager when the Toronto team was added to theAmerican League's ros- ter in 1977. He was 168-318 in Toronto for those three seasons.
