Page 14 POST-GAZE'n'E, FEBRUARY 13, 2015 NEWS :BRIEFS (FROM ITALIAN NEWSPAPERS AND OTHER PUBLICATIONS) Compiled by Orazio Z. Buttafuoco HOW POPE FRANCIS ADDRESSES THE NEEDS OF THE CHURCH. At a meeting of the Church's Governing Body -- the Curia -- the Pope asked each member of this execu- tive group to outline the standing of each department and present a general picture on the needs of the Church. Pope Francis listened closely to each Cardinal so that he could fully realize what problems, if any, concern each and any congregation and the Pontifical Councils too. At this particular meeting there was, on the agenda, no particular issue to address but rather an opportunity to monitor what is taking place within each executive "Dicastero" (execu- tive department). The meeting underscored the important role of a "factotum" (a problem solver) working close to the Pope himself, namely Monsignor Lorenzo Baldisseri, Secretary of the Bishops' Conference as well as of the Coun- cil of Cardinals, and who acted as the Secretary of the Executive meeting, while Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello acted as Coordinator. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ITALIAN BEACHES IN 2013. To the surprise of the "non-residents," 17 beach spots have attracted an increasing number of visitors, mostly foreign, during the past year. These places were identified as the cleanest of all: unpolluted coastal areas along the entire peninsula. The Regions of Toscana and of Sicily were men- tioned each for three magnificent beaches. One very spe- cial spot, as described by "Legambiente" (environmental agency) was the "Spiaggia dei Conigli" (the rabbits' beach), located off the island of Favignana (in Western Sicily), which is yearly visited by ever large throngs of tourists from all corners of the world; it is also located in a protected area in front of which the island of rabbits is visible. The island is impervious to a visitor: too rocky! Of course, both the beach and the island are a national reserve where marine turtles deposit their eggs. The #1 Italian beach was found to be the "Cala Bianca," in Camerota, in the coastal area of the province of Salerno. Of course, the beautiful beaches, of the 17, we have indicated above are a wonderful corollary to all the magnificent, artistic heritage we all admire in Italy, and offer to the astonished visitors. Have a great trip! THE AMERICAN MARKET AND THE MADE-IN-ITALY PRODUCTS. The timid signs of an economic recovery are somewhat encouraging. Americans seem to be increas- ingly attracted by the quality of Italian manufactured goods, especially, it goes without saying, food items. With a justi- fied cautious optimism, many manufacturers predict for the new (2014) year, a profit in excess of 15 billion euro (@ $21 billion), even though the exchange euro-dollar leaves something to be desired. Of course, New York remains the principal reference point. There are now five cities, like New York, including the resuscitated Miami, Florida, out of the picture for a while, but now ready to accommodate all kinds of Italian manufactured goods to satisfy the increas- ing demand. Let's hope for the best. Leave the DELIVERY Home Each Week[l ...... " - " to Us! ) With a Gift Subscription to the Post-Gazette, your generosity will be remembered every week of the year. My favorite radio conser- vative guy, Jeff Kuhner, seemed to be siding with Paul and Christie. I am pro- vaccine. I remember the fifties as a little kid when polio was scaring the coun- try and childhood diseases like the measles, chicken pox, mumps and sometimes whooping cough were spread- ing like wildfire. As soon as a polio vaccine came out, parents had their kids lin- ing up for the shot. Parents wished for vac- cines for all those childhood diseases, but there weren't any at that time. I can re- member getting everything but the whooping cough and I can remember my brother catching all three from me. My mother, like most mothers back in the day, must have felt like she was a nurse. I caught them all in school and my pre-school little brother got them from me. It was a long six weeks for my mother and then it was over for good. The reason polio dis- appeared and that child- hood diseases vanished was vaccinations. Today, they are all coming back to soci- ety. Mostly because many parents think vaccinations cause autism, which has been proven a falsehood or because the diseases are arriving in this country through the unvaccinated. Conservatives for the most part are pro-vaccines. It is the liberal wackos who are the truly anti-science folks. Just look at the editorials of the Huffington Post over the years. They were clearly anti-vaccine for the longest time. As were many Holly- wood liberal types. Obama and "This Organization" Last week after ISIS de- cided to burn alive a captured Jordanian soldier, President Obama spoke of this terrible action by "this organization" committing such a barbaric crime against humanity. We have a president who it would seem cannot come to use the term on everyone else's lips, Radical Islam. His use of "this organiza- tion," is making ISIS like the Rotary, the Elks, the Moose, the K of C or the American Legion. We are talking about a radicalized LEGAL NOTICE Commonwealth of Massachusetts The Trial Court Probate and Family Court Department MIDDLESEX Division Docket No. 15W0126 SUMMONS BY PUBLICATION KELLY DOS SANTOS, Plaintiff(s) v. Don't take my word, take theirs. They know who they are and proudly pro- claim it, but Obama shuts off his eyes and ears to reality. He is truly the worse foreign policy president this country has ever seen. I Love Mark Levin I listen to this guy's radio show nightly. He is spot on when talking about ISIS, which he refers to as "sub- human cockroaches." He is right on when it comes to our immigration policy which now seems non-existent. He goes after pols like Jeb Bush who has been calling for more temporary work visas. How many millions of these visas has the United States handed out in recent years, millions? How many of these immigrants ever go home when their visas ex- pire? They simply, for the most part, go into the shad- ows until Obama clears their shadows for them. Did you know that some 20 percent of households in America speak another lan- guage other than English at home? Did you know that 20 percent of U.S. residents are now foreign born? Did you know that nearly 30 percent of California is now foreign born? Our nation is constantly taking in wave after wave of immigrants and assimila- tion is falling behind. We are a nation of immigrants. My grandparents were immi- grants, however, they made efforts to assimilate much faster than we are seeing today. We are endangering our national identity if we instead of being a melting pot, become Balkanized. Brian Williams from NBC News Must Go The recent revelation that LEGAL NOTICE Brian Williams has been re- portedly peddling a lie going back to 2003 is unbeliev- able. He finally had to come clean last week and apolo- gized to his viewers. He made himself out to be a war hero who risked his life cov- ering the conflict in Iraq back in 2003. Now we find out the helicopter shot down by Saddam's forces was not the one he was on. Apparently, he was on the next helicopter an hour later. That's now pretty clear thanks to Stars and Stripes, the military news- paper for blowing up this farce of a story. Brian Williams and NBC News are now in a bind. How can Williams or NBC News be taken seriously if you can't trust Williams to tell the truth? I think he should be booted quickly. He wasn't under fire back in 2003, but certainly is under fire today. Shaheen Gets Kudos from Me I agree with Shaheen's quote above. Why should U.S. taxpayers be funding oil paintings of bureaucrats and politicians? I say the same thing here in Massachusetts about our politicians up on Beacon Hill. Radio Shack Goes Under Radio Shack Corp., around for 94 years starting off right here in Boston, has filed for bankruptcy closing all 4,000 sites which will now be turned into Sprint locations. Staples and Office Depot Merging? As many as 1,000 Staples and Office Depot store clos- ings are expected if federal regulators sign off on the planned $6.3 billion merger of the nation's two largest office supply chains.
