Slugger Dave Ortiz and the Red Sox went down to the wire and ended up splitting the difference. The Red Sox were offering $12.6 million for next sea- son. He wanted $16.5 mil- lion. The two sides settled on $14.6 million. I still think it is too much but at least all the foolish drama has come to a happy ending for both sides. Ortiz obviously knew there were no other teams out there willing to give him those big bucks he wanted and his only hope was the kind of compromise he fi- nally got. Now let's hope he earns his salary this upcom- ing season. Yankees Get More Young Arms According to GM Brian Cashman, it is "pitching, pitching, pitching." Last year the Yankees won an American League best 97-65 season record but their bats died in Division play. CC Sabathia is still their long- term Number I ace starter. The Yankees picked up Michael Pineda from the Mariners along with Hiroki Kuroda. With CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova, they have a great starting four. Where in the rotation is A.J. Texas and Napoli Come Together Too Catcher Mike Napoli and the Rangers have agreed on a one-year, $9.4 million deal. Last season, Napoli set career highs by hitting .320 with 30 homers and 75 RBIs in 113 games for Texas. He can play first base, D.H. and the catching position.
