WITNESS, Hon. PETER C. DiGANGI, First Justice of this Court. Date: February 17, 2012 Tara E. DeCristofaro, Register of Probate Run date: 3/2/12 EXTRA Innings by Sal Giarratani those seasons, he played for the Sox where he won 186 games. He finishes 6 wins short of tying the 192 all time win mark for the Sox still tied by Cy Young and Roger Clemens. His agent said many teams were in- terested in him but when all was said and done; less was said and done. He simply is too old and his record too poor over the past few years to earn a spot anywhere in baseball. Last season, Francona kept starting him even when he stunk in or- der to add to his career win mark or so it seemed to most of us as 2011 imploded into ashes. Lester New Team Ace Last year was his best sea- son and September was a personal nightmare as he went 0-4 with an 8.75 ERA but it is clear that Bobby Val- entine views Jon Lester as the team ace. Josh Beckett is now yesterday's leader. On paper once again, the Sox look good but you win on the field and not on paper. If Lester stays healthy and fo- cused, there is no reason he can't be a consistent 18 to 22 game winner. Cespedes Signs with Oakland A's Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes and Oakland have agreed to a 4-year, $36 mil- lion contract. The Athletics are also seeking the okay from Major League Baseball to once again relocate, this time to San Jose where the team plans on building a state-of- the-art ballpark. The Athlet- ics began in Philadelphia, and then moved to Kansas City before ending up in Oak- land. AL Manager of Year Staying Put in Tampa Tampa Bay Rays Manager Joe Madden isn't going any- where soon. He just signed up for three more years that could keep him in the dug- out through 2015. The Rays formally announced the con- tract extension with the 58- year-old manager. Madden has led the Rays to the play- offs three of the past four seasons. Madden who has a 495-477 win-loss record with Tampa Bay says, "I know the grass -- the turf- is not any greener elsewhere "I want to be here." More on Hamilton's Demon Battles AL MVP from 2010 Josh Hamilton is undergoing counseling in the aftermath of his alcohol relapse and the Texas Rangers slugger said he is "Doing things a day at a time." According to his pastor in an interview on GBTV with Glenn Beck, Hamilton says he knows his addiction is a serious one. His current relapse is his second in the past three years. Why Didn't Rodriguez Read the Fine Print? Former NY Mats closer Francisco Rodriguez is con- sidering legal action against ex-agents. Francisco's lawyer, said Rodriguez is pondering a malpractice fraud suit against his former agents. Last year, Rodriguez made $11.5 million in 'the final year of a three-year, $37 million contract with the Mats. He thought he had a no trade clause preventing a trade to I0 different teams including the Brewers. Last July, New York traded him to Milwaukee, Rodriguez had hoped he still could be at least a part-time closer, but since the July trade, Mil- waukee has used him only as a set-up guy which he thought diminished his monetary value on the free agent market. Rodriguez is 30 years old and has the fourth most saves (291) by an active pitcher and has not been used in a save situation since his July 12, 2011 trade to the Brewers. Obviously, the NY Mats knew what was in his contract, why didn't Rodriguez? Reading your con- tract to make sure of its con- tents sounds like a no- brainer to me, especially that no-trade provision that apparently never made it into print and which ab- sence was not noted by Rodriguez until far too late. By the way, his new agent is Scott Boras. His value seemingly diminished, he reportedly had no option but to accept arbitration from the Brewers after trying the free agent market and signed a one-year, $8 million deal. Remember, no matter how many agents or lawyers you have, you are your own bottom line. If you are sign- ing something, read it all first. Oakland Will Learn Its Mistake in Short Order Manny Ramirez and the Oakland Athletics have reached an agreement on a minor league contract. The deal reportedly was worth about $500,000. The 12-time All Star must serve a 50 game suspension be- fore he can don a uniform. He could start playing on May 30 on his 404 birthday. Ramirez has 555 home runs, 1,831 RBIs and a .312 average. This season would be his 20 season of play. Rivera May Curtain Call His Career in "12 Yankees closer Mariano Rivera could be in his final season of play. The 43-year- old New York Yankees star says he won't make an announcement about his future until after the season ends. He's already made his decision but won't reveal it until maybe October. As Rivera says, "I know I'll tell you when I'm ready." He is the career save leader with an incredible 603 saves. Yankees Get New DH A day after trading A.J. Burnett, the Yankees used some of his salary to get themselves Raul Ibanez as their left-handed D.H. The two sides have agreed to a $41.1 million, one-year deal. Ibanez is 39 years old and played with the Phillies the last three years and last year had 20 homers, 84 RBIs with a .245 average.
