Please RSVP by March 9 h -- Space is limited by Sal Giarratani Our Lady of Mount Carmel held the traditional Italian celebration of the upcoming Lenten season on Saturday, February 26. The church hall had an overflow crowd of vigilers who have been keeping hope alive for the reopening of the shut- tered church since the Bos- ton Archdiocese "recon- figurated" both the parish and church building on Oc- tober 12, 2004. Nearly 70 at- tended in support to cel- ebrate both the Mt. Carmel vigil and party like they do down in New Orleans at the Mardi Gras. Recent news that-Our Lady of Lourdes in Beachmont has just been re- opened as a worship site was also celebrated as a victory for all those parishes still fighting to re-open the seven churches still in vigil. The party itself was lively. There was a great dinner Giuseppina and Antonio Giangregorio dressed up for the Mt. Carmel Carnevale. P.J. Schott when she's not vigiling is trying to write a mystery story that sounds like a great movie someday. Here she is celebrating. ordered from Meridian Mar- ket and D.J. Joey Fielding (www.myspace.com/ joeyfielding) kept folks a- rocking and a-rolling on the dance floor all night long. He never played "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" but you could feel that attitude at the celebration from start to finish said one party-goer. As I See It An East Boston Pet store located on Bennington , Street near J L' ; Central Square was recently cited by au- thorities for selling live chickens, roosters, and quail as food. They are also cur- rently under investigation for selling roosters for cock fights. Of course they're de- fense is they weren't aware they needed a permit. Let's try going to their country and getting away with some- thing so disgusting. Chick- ens, roosters and quail all caged up ready for the kill was part of their alleged pet store scheme ... Welfare is a way of life for many people, passed on from generation to generation!!! Welfare fraud is growing, and costing tax- payers billions. Many women who are too lazy to work have babies from mul- tiple partners just to receive healthy benefits. It's the children they bear that suf- fer! Recently the Boston Her- a/d exposed some of the ways welfare debit cards are being spent. McDonald's made mega bucks on the taxpay- ers! (Welfare debit cards is the political correct name for welfare stamps, and other goodies). Hats off to House Speaker Robert DeLeo who promises to crack down on Welfare abuses in response to a Herald interview that found recipients used their electronic benefit debit cards to blow millions in taxpayer money on nonessentials such as junk foods, lingerie, liquor, movies, pets, and bars. WHAT A LIFE! When you know how to manipulate the system! A good reason not to get married!!! Having babies out of wedlock with one partner is a thing of the past. Reserved only for hon- est people. Section 8 Hous- ing certificates is another joke. Landlords cannot keep up with the cost of repairs that Section 8 tenants leave behind once they move or get evicted. The system is being used and abused ... Winter is slowly making its way out and Spring is around the corner. Street cleaning is soon to resume, but let's do our best to keep the streets clean. Pick up after yourself and report problems to the City of Boston. City officials need to enforce the already existing laws! ... What happened to our do- mestic oil? We are paying almost $4.00 a gallon for gas, and people are just laying back not asking questions why we have to depend on the Middle East for our oil! And, for those liberal loonies who don't want off-shore drilling, how does $10.00 a gallon sound? ... IT'SFUN TIME!!! The Italian Holiday "Carnevale" will be cel- ebrated on Thursday, March 10 at Spinelli's Function Fa- cility in East Boston. It's a 150 year old Italian tradition which celebrates Italy's uni- fication and "goodbye to meat'! Traditional dances will be performed by the Beverly Richards Dance School. Demonstrations of paper mache will be part of the festivities. Costume is optional. Everyone is invited to attend this fun holiday af- fair. To purchase tickets and for more information call Italia Unita 617-561-3201. In Italy, Carnevale is a huge winter festival celebrated with parades, masquerade balls, entertainment, music and parties. In Italy this celebration can last as long as two weeks. Italian Americans keep with the tradition in this country by throwing parties, and costume balls ... T/// next time!
