He recently took a jab at former U.S. Senator Scott Brown who might also be seeking the GOP nomination for governor at the same time. Grossman now says he is "strongly leaning toward running" for governor -- and Brown would be a formidable opponent. He joked about pocket tweets saying, "I prom- ise you I won't be pocket tweeting" if he runs for gov- ernor. Others also being men- tioned for governor include U.S. Rep. Michael Capuano and Attorney General Martha Coakley. Many Republicans think that if Brown runs for governor Charlie Baker will stay out of the race. BAR LOUIE COMING NEAR FENWAY SOON Add the Texas-based Bar Louie to the area surround- ing Fenway Park and adding to the growing dining and nightlife scene. This new Bar Louie should be opening in July on the first floor of the Marriott Residence Inn scheduled to open in May. This new hotel will have 175 rooms at its 121 Brookline Avenue address. The 23-year- old restaurant chain already is open at Patriot Place in Foxboro and in Providence. The Fenway-Longwood Area has been growing leaps and bounds in recent years and it appears there will be more construction to come in this area between Brookline Village and Kenmore Square. GOING AFTER A DEAD GUY IS SO UNBECOMING Howie Carr recently did a column about a new book on Whitey Bulger written by veteran Boston reporters Dick Lehr and Gerry O'Neil. In the book, it is alleged that former City Councilor Presi- dent Jimmy Kelly was on the take from Whitey for $100 a week back during the busing days. Kelly passed away in 2007 after several terms as council president and after his death the new Broadway Bridge connecting Southie to the South End was dedicated in his honor. I first met Kelly back in the early '70s during the anti- busing struggles. He was a sheet-metal worker and was considered rough around the edges and he became the loudest voice in opposition to court ordered busing by Judge W. Arthur Garrity. We wrote together in a number of Southie newspapers blast- ing the social engineers who were pushing class war- fare through court-ordered busing of children neighbor- hood to neighborhood. Kelly became a local legend and inspired many others to speak out like John Ciccone, who now publishes the new South Boston Today community newspaper and myself who went on to be a prolific writer in various newspapers in and near Boston. We learned much from Jimmy Kelly about standing up arid speak- ing out against injustice. This book now calls Jimmy Kelly names but Jimmy isn't here anymore to defend him- self. Kelly was a good man who always put up a good fight to defend his values and his neighborhood. He was too loud at times because be- ing part of any silent major- ity wasn't his style. I consid- ered him a friend as he did me. We stood together back in the bad old days when a federal court order single- handedly destroyed public education and many young people of that era. Jimmy Kelly was no racist or blow- hard, he truly cared about life around him. Rosa Parks was called many ugly names after she refused to stand at the back of a bus in 1955 and inspired a whole movement to fight harder. She once said something that Jimmy Kelly could have also said, "You must never be fear- ful about what you are doing when it is right." It doesn't take much cour- age to go after a dead man which says much about our liberal news media. GROSSMAN NAMES NAPOLITANO NEW COMMITTEE DIRECTOR State Treasurer Steve Grossman has named Dan J. Napolitano of Everett, a vet- eran Democratic activist as the executive director of the Grossman Committee. Napolitano, 26, is a member of the Everett Common Coun- cil and served as president of the council in 2012. He served as a member of the field team during Grossman's 2010 Treasurer campaign. Said Grossman, "I am de- lighted that DJ has joined our team as we work to build a strong and effective campaign organization for 2014. DJ played a significant role in helping us build grassroots support in 2010 and those skills will be vital during the 2014 campaign."
