Her strong voice and natural charm has made her the most successful country music artist in history. Her success is no coincidence as Swift is one of the hard- est working performers in music. This unauthorized documentary goes beyond the music and explores the challenges and triumphs of Taylor Swift -- the American Beauty! BORGIA FAITH AND FEAR: SEASON ONE (3-DVD) Lionsgate In the era of Da Vinci and Michelangelo, of enlight- ened creativity and unparal- leled intellectual achieve- ment, rampant lawlessness and incessant war also reigned. A crime family emerged and would open the most infamous chapter in the history of the Catholic Church. In the center of the story is Rodrigo Borgia -- News Briefs (Continued from Page I) have been around since 1970 but they are becoming more numerous. Once all you needed was to show a utility bill to register now many states support laws requiring voters to show pic- ture IDs. Most of these new laws have been passed by Republican legislatures to prevent fraud. Democrats for the most part oppose them and say they keep the poor, the elderly and minorities from voting. In December. the US Jus- tice Department blocked South Carolina's voter ID law under its authority in the Voting Rights Act to review places with a history of dis- crimination. The feds say non-whites are less likely than white voters in the state to have a photo ID and thus the new law would be discriminatory. About 82,000 non-whites in the state do not have a photo ID or driv- ers' license. South Carolina officials sued on February 7 to over- turn the federal move. I agree with South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley who stated, "If you have to show a picture ID to buy Sudafed. show a picture ID to get on a plane, you should have to show a picture ID to do that one thing that is to vote." The Democrats apparently aren't cOncerned with mak- ing sure who shows up to vote. On the King Holiday, NAACP President Ben Jeal- ous appeared with US Attor- ney General Eric Holder at a rally outside the state Capi- tol in Washington, D.C. and declared South Carolina "ground zero" in the voting rights battle. Give Me That Lunch Little Girl News story just out of North Carolina. Local health officials trying to follow USDA guidelines for healthy school lunches are now apparently confiscating lunches brought in by children if parents are packing unhealthy stuff. In one case, a four-year-olds lunch was taken because mommy gave her a turkey and cheese sandwich, a ba- nana, a bag of chips and apple juice. Seems this lunch was unacceptable to those that know better than parents what to feed their children. The pupil was given a hot lunch from the cafeteria containing chicken nuggets and some other &#*. The school also sent home a bill for the school lunch too. What is wrong with this picture? Parents are too stu- pid to give their children healthy lunches? School of- ficials need to stop acting like storm troopers when it comes to a turkey cheese sandwich. This isn't Nazi Germany. This is America. Home of the Brave. Land of the Free. All that stuff. Stop spying on parents. Stop steal- ing a little kid's lunch too. Obama the Statist Does Makeover of American Gov't When our founding fathers created this democratic re- public of ours, it was un- heard of in Europe for such a kind of republic governed by a constitution that lim- ited the power of govern- ment. Ben Franklin once said that we shall try to live with a government protected by a constitution until and when if the people wish to live under despotism again. He and the others like Tho- mas Jefferson, James Madi- son, John Adams and Alexander Hamilton all knew that our strength as a government came from the people and not the leaders such as themselves. It was a radical idea in the 18 t century and today it still re- mains a radical idea for most of the world that meets at the United Nations. Many conservatives and fringe groups on the far right see Obama and think dictator. Some call him a commie. Some call him a socialist. I think he is a stat- ist infected with an ailment known to me as Mussolini. He likes hearing himself talk. Recently, he asked the Congress to cede to him the authority to re-organize fed- eral agencies. We have a careful Balance of power in our government that has worked since 1791. We have three co-equal branches of government. No one branch rules. They all rule together as checks and balances on each other. I enjoy listening to Glenn Beck on the radio but some- times he can look like a wing-nut. He recently played the audio of the, president's state of the union address and then with the help of a computer added the sound track of the crowds cheering Darth Vader ranting about the Empire. Obama so enjoys his popu- list class warfare shlick and the pitting of Americans against each other. Keeping America divided and playing both ends against the middle, His is the politics of envy and division. This was not the change most of us were hoping for back in 2008. The Coronation of a Kennedy He has not even an- nounced yet but already Joe Kennedy 3K had earned the endorsements of both SEIU and the AFL-CIO. Young Ken- nedy just moved into the dis- trict to attain district resi- dency which was a sure bet he is running but shouldn't the unions at least wait un- til after his announcement? I am down in the new 4 th district all the time. Much of it further down toward Rhode Island is pretty conservative. US Sen. Scott Brown hails from Wrentham where he previously was electedto the state senate. Republicans can win down there. Repub- lican Scan Bielat almost beat Frank two years ago before the district lines moved more to the right. For over 70 years a Republican (Speaker Joe Martin and then. Margaret Heckler) rep- resented most of what is now the new 4 t district on Capi- tol Hill. The question is can Bielat or anyone else beat a Kennedy at election time in Massachusetts? His father is Joe Kennedy It, a former congressman who replaced Speaker Tip O'Neill Jr, in the 8 t district back in 1986. His grandfa- ther was Bobby Kennedy one of my political heroes back in my younger days. I've heard this latest Kennedy speak over at the Kennedy Library and he pre- sents himself well and re- minds me more of his grand- father not his father. Does Camelot still rule in Massachusetts? Is there still a love affair with the Kennedy family? Can this latest version of a Kennedy seek and win election on his own merits? Where does he actually stand on the important is- sues of the day being de- bated both here locally and in Washington: DC. This too early union back- ing could actually have a blowback effect on his can- didacy. Nothing should ever look like a done deal for any- one. I have a feeling this Kennedy knows that too. "The Artist" Was Best 2011 Movie? "The Artist"' a French black and white, silent movie about a little dog has won the best picture of the year award at the 84 t Annual Academy Awards Show. Why? Who saw this movie? Who wants to see it? What about movies that ac- tually drew millions at the box office? Who picks these winners and why? By the way, one of the losers in this category was "The Driver." The fact it even got nomi- nated was outlandish to me. I saw it and it stunk big time. This one was in full color and had sound. This movie needed to be silent to be better. How much socio- pathic babble can you take before you lose it yourself? This movie was definitely of the crash and burn type, ex- cept it took too long to crash and it didn't burn quick enough. OUCH! I say to this cinema presentation.
