POST-GAZETTE, MARCH 12, 2010 Page7 You can email your questions to to the attention of Freeway. Don't forget folks, FYeeway is not a Vet, so please keep the questions light-hearted! Thanks. "THINK GREEN" Saint Patrick's Day is here and for all you Irish pooches and their human companions I sing this to you, *When Irish Eyes are Smiling." Even to my two sweethearts at the Post-Gazette, Frances and Joan. They are also my Irish friends. They work with me each and everyday. A wonder- ful day to all Irish or not. It is a day to remember and cel- ebrate and be happy. I asked my human companion who was St. Patrick? St. Patrick's Day is a festive day for the Irish people. St. Patrick's day is a festive public holiday for the Republic of Ireland and also celebrated with much en- thusiasm in places such as Canada, Great Britain, Aus- tralia, United States and New Zealand. Sumptuous feasts, green clothes, frothy delights, joyous merrymaking with friends and family all are part of this grand accession. Spread the spirits of Paddy's Day with everyone you know because everyone should be Irish on St. Paddy's Day. "SAINT PATRICK'S DAY" St. Patrick's Day is here, you see. We'll pick some shamrock, one, two three. We'll count the leaves and look them over. And maybe find a four-leafed clover. l'll sew green buttons on my vest, Green for St. Patrick is the best. l'll wear a green hat, very high, And dance a jig -- at least l'll try! There are many good reasons for drinking, One has just entered my pooch head. If a man doesn't drink when he's living How in the hell can he drink when he's dead? That's all for now ... Enjoy, have a great day and keep safe. PRAYER by Judean Langone Let the light of our souls - shine forth and we can change the world. Avanti Sl00oe Repair and Shop Avanti Shoe Repair and shop located on 233 Main Street is a unique shoe shop in Charlestown. Owned and oper- ated by James Melkonian since 1997, Avanti continues to provide quality shoes and gear for children as well as repair and customize shoes for all ages. Avanti sells Kidorable and Stride Rite. A loyal customer said, "My wife and I can't say enough kind things about Avanti Shoes in Charlestown. Our son, Thomas, has lymphedema, a condition that causes his left foot to swell. After looking in specialty shoe shops and on the internet for a year, we couldn't find any shoe that would fit that foot, and we worried about what to do as he grew older. Avanti Shoes and Shoe Repair soon solved the problem. Owners James and Elena Melkonian worked with us to find a great Stride-Rite shoe that almost fit Thomas's little foot, and then Elena cus- tom-tailored it (James and Elena used James Melkonian repairing boots. James Melkonian next to the Kidorable display. to make shoes themselves) until it fit perfectly. Since that first pair, we've bought two more from Avanti and the compression from these shoes has even helped reduce the foot's swelling. Avanti's selection of children's shoes is great, owners James and Elena give you personalized shoe-fittings, and as Charlestown residents we love support- ing a local small business. (And that's not to mention the miracle they worked on my wife's favorite sandals). We hope our neighbors in Charlestown will check out Avanti's children's shoes and shoe repair services and support this friendly, convenient local business." Stop into Avanti today! Business hours are Monday - Friday 7:30AM - 6:30PM and Saturdays from 9AM - 4PM.
