Page 6 .................................... POST-GAZETTE, MARCH 13, 2015 The time has come, the walrus said, TO TALK OF MANY THINGS NEW KIDZ ON THE EASTIE BLOCK -- I met a young couple new to East Boston out walking their dog. They live near Maverick Square. She is from Chicago and he is from Maine. Brent Skill- ings and Carrie Heather- wick with their doggie "Prada" are standing on Chelsea Street. Noticed Brent is wearing a Chicago Blackhawks jersey. He told me the jersey was her gift to him. He said he loves the Bruins. I'm thinking, "Sure you do." SAME OLD SAME OLD RAISE TAXES? Opponents of last year's raising of the gas tax may have lost at the ballot box, but they are back again and that didn't stop them from holding a State House rally last wee k to hike the+gas of shoes and ships and sealing wax of cabbages and kings by Sal Giarratani from the city and a citation in honor of his 904 birthday. ST, PATTY'S DAY CELEBRATION ON MARCH 17 TM The Quincy Council on Ag- ing will be celebrating St. patrick's Day on Tuesday, March 17 th at the Kennedy Center in North Quincy. MOTOWN 25: YESTER- DAY, TODAY, FOREVER I watched Motown 25 on Channel 2 recently and laughed at the show be- cause I have always been a fan of great soul music and Motown was great music. I saw Michael Jackson do his moonwalk for the very first time at that 25 th gala back in 1983. For me the best part of the show was the Four Tops and Temptations sing- ing all their great hits to- gether. They were the start- ing nine of great music both for listening and dancing. BOSTON IRISH RADIO WROL ON THE ROAD IN DANVERS Two Saturdays ago, WROL's Irish Hit Parade was on the road at Michaud Mitsubishi in Danvers up on the North Shore. As I listening to 950AM, Patriots great run- ning back Jonas Gray was on the air trying to sound very Irish and Kevin Michaud, owner of the car +dealership, informed the radio audience that :is Angela Cristiani, Boston Teachers Union Communi- cations Director with Governor Charlie Baker at the Annual DiDomenico Foundation St. Patrick's Day Celebration at the Knights of Columbus in Charlestown on Friday, March 6 th hosted by Sena- tor Sai DiDomenico. (Photos by Sal Giarratani) Correa announced her plans include opening up dialogue with small business folks, residents and developers looking at the community. Congrats go out to Claudia! QUOTE TO NOTE "I'm going to be 73 next week (last week) and you think I'm going to shovel? I'd take a stick of dynamite to it. It's solid as a rock out there." -- Eddie Quinlan, Southie retiree, talking about those snow banks still out there. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO EDDIE QUINLAN! H Whatever, you do, don't buy this guy a shovel for his birthday. LEGAL NOTICE Commonwealth of Massachusetts tax by 10 cents. Last year, the gas tax was raised by 11 percent but obviously that's not enough. They keep coming after the pockets of the beleaguered tpayer. Didn't they just raise the fees at the Registry of Motor Vehicles by 20 ,percent? Weren't MBTA fares in- creased, cigarette taxes too? What about new taxes on Amazon.com sales and utili- ties? Those at the rally apparently think more money is still needed. No- body is talking about neces- sary reforms or cost-savings ideas, it is all about raising the revenue stream. This is ridiculous. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ROSARIO CHARLES SANTORO A Iongtime friend Frank Santoro's father just cel- ebrated his 90 th birthday on February 17 th. He is the youngest of 17 children and remains the final survivor of his immediate family. He and six of his brothers served dur- ing World War II. Rosario and his wife Bernadette have lived in Quincy since 1953. On February 22 n the Santoro family and lots of friends gathered at The Fox and Hound Restaurant for his birthday party. Even Mayor Tommy Koch showed up with official greetings mother was a Hurley. I have been listening to the Irish Ht Parade going back to 1967 when my mother would play that show religiously all day on Saturdays, apparently let- ting me know I was Irish too. It worked, I love Irish music. ATTENTION: SULLIVAN'S AT CASTLE ISLAND IS OPENED ONCE AGAIN Hey, Boston, you can get you hot dogs again. Sullivan's at Castle Island has opened for another season. You can eat your hot dogs and then take a spin around the Island. Enjoy the day, exercise and get a suntan. But remember, it all starts with a Sullivan's dog with mustard and relish.
