Here are some facts on the price increases, and what fisher- men have to go through in order to get a daily catch in the 21st century. In the old days, fishermen could go out anytime and catch 400 lbs a day. However, about five years ago a "Catch Share System" was put in place by the government. To explain, the "Catch Share System," is one in which the govern- ment sold off shares of the ocean to Wall Street inves- tors. Investors were allowed to limit the amount of fish a fisherman could catch a year. If the fisherman's lim- its were reached, the fish- erman had to lease pound- age from an investor for a price. One such investor is the Walton Family Trust, a/k/a Walmart stores. Walmart Family Trust charges fishermen approxi- mately $5.00 to $5.50 a pound to lease after a fish- erman has reached their quota. Basically, the money the Walton Family Trust is getting per pound from fish- ermen is FREE of overhead! No dockage fees, no crew, no rent, no insurance, zilchl The allotted quota for fisher- men to fish is approximately $3,000 before paying royal- ties to the Walton Family Trust, or other investors. Investors can charge fisher- men as much as they want once fishermen have reached their quota. For the DIAMONDS. ROLEX ESTATE JEWELRY Bought & Sold .... Jewelers Exch. Bldg.
