C.A.S.IT., Inc., the Centro Attivita" Scolastiche Italiane, recently hosted its annual General Assembly at Spinelli's function facility in Lynnfield, Massachu- setts. C.A.S.IT., Inc. is a non-profit educa- tional and professional organization dedi- cated to the promotion of Italian language and culture in the public and private schools of New England. C.A.S.IT. is under the direction of the Consulate General of Italy and its mission is to assist communi- ties that wish to introduce, preserve, rejuvenate or broaden the study of the Italian language in their schools. Maria Gioconda Motta, Chairman of the Board was pleased to welcome and thank Dott. Luigi Munno, Commissario Amministrativo and Dott. Carlo Cipollone, Direttore Didattico, from the offices of the Italian Consulate General of Italy in Boston. Dott. Munno praised C.A.S.IT. for promot- ing Italian language and culture through- out New England and thanked President Katherine Lopez Natale for her leadership as President. Much praise was given to the teachers, parents and students of our communities and one of the evening's highlights in- cluded the distribution of prizes to the Student winners of the "Galileo" Essay and Poster Contest held during October Ital- ian-American Heritage Month. Pauline Lombardo, Chairperson of the contest and C.A.S.IT. Member of Board of Dir- ectors, an- nounced the names of the winning stu- dents and their respec- tive teachers and distrib- uted awards totaling $4,000. In the spot- light was the North End's Eliot School that has ere- Ms. Camiolo, teacher ated an extremely effective K-8 program in the teaching of the Italian language. Chair- man Motta praised the school's Principal, Tracey Griffith, for her hard work and dili- gence in establishing the program and pre- sented her with a Supplemental Grant check in the amount of $19,500. Principal Griffith addressed the assembly and told of her resolve to make the teaching of Italian a full-time effort at the school and ultimately include all students. She thanked everyone for the public recognition. The evening concluded with a gener- ous donation to C.A.3.1T. by Gluseppe Giangregorio, made in memory of his mother, and the election of Officers and Directors, presided by Attorney Jennifer Genzale, Esq. of the law firm, Genzale & Haven LLP. The following officers were elected unanimously by the Assembly to begin a new term of office commencing January 2010: Maria Gioconda Motta will continue as Chairman of the C.A.S.IT. Board: Adelaide Guarracino (President), Katherine Lopez Natale (Vice President), Alberto Mogavero (Treasurer) and Stephen Maio (Clerk). Unanimously elected to serve a two-year term on the C.A.S.IT. Board of Directors were: Bruna Boyle, William Conners, Giuseppe Giangregorio, Lola Lombardo, Pauline Lombardo, Maria Mansella, Giuseppe Polimeni and Ronald Testa.
