This sculpture is an internation- ally known landmark of Boston, as is his Appeal to the Great Spirit in front of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In 1882, at the age of 21, a youthful and unknown Dallin won a City competi- tion for Boston's Paul Revere Monument. His work was selected in a blind comple- tion over far more estab- lished sculptors, including Daniel Chester French. Nev- ertheless, his quest to com- plete the commission was a 58-year test of perseverance and resolve. Dallin created seven different versions of the Revere sculpture before it was finally cast in bronze and installed in The Prado in 1940.
