Page8 POST-GAZETTE, APRIL 30, 2010 Bells of Remembrance visits the North End each year led by Bob D. Bob D with Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley. Bob D with oi' Saint Nick. Sunny ... ing in Cancun. North End Against Drugs event with Bob D. 009ob D. ,t.i8 Pest by Sal Giarratani The last time I saw Bobby D was on Hanover Street. We waved to each and it was the last time I saw him. Bob D passed away sud- denly while vacationing in Cancun, Mexico of a heart attack. His heart was al- ways on overtime helping people, especially our youth. At his funeral there were many of his students at the Mass saying goodbye to their mentor and good friend. He touched so many people, it's almost impossible to imag- ine that a pillar in Boston's community is gone. He always said "Do the right thing" and "smile". He took his own advice. He took pride in his weekly column "Bob D's Beat". He wrote about the events and sports going in our communities. He cov- ered almost everything, in- cluding his vacations and spiritual journeys. Bob was a real faithful guy. He at- tended Mass every week and encouraged people to keep the faith. People also looked forward to seeing their names mentioned in his "Celeb Sightings" be- cause in his mind everyday people he encountered were celebrities. Bob of course got to meet some famous celebs and it is not a surprise, he really got around! He got around the City of Boston and never had a car. Noth- ing ever stopped him. Bob will be missed.
