On Saturday, May 1, 2010 in beautiful Newburyport, Massachusetts The T206 COLLECTION The Players & Their Stories was released at a book signing for family and friends. Hundreds gathered at the Jabberwocky Book- store located at the Tannery. Authors, Tom Zappala, Ellen Zappala, put together a fabulous coffee table book of baseball cards, players and their stories with Lou Blasi and contributions and fore- word written by Joe Orlando. The T206 COLLECTION The Players & Their Stories is a tribute to the men featured in the greatest baseball card collection that has ever ex- isted. This book is for base- ball fans, hobbyists, and his- tory buffs. The brief bio- graphical narratives along with the personal and pro- fessional statistics of each player offer you a peek into the developing world of base- ball during the early part of the 20m century. Tom Zappala is no stranger to the media. He hosts a weekly radio talk show on 1110AM WCCM in Haverhill, MA with co-host Mike Lomazzo called the "Sicilian Corner" on Fridays from 11:00AM- I:00PM. Tom along with Mike are also involved in the annual "Feast of Three Saints" held every September in Lawrence, Massa- chusetts. The publication of The T206 COLLECTION The Players & Their Stories is a must have for every baseball enthusiast. The meeting will start at promptly 7:00 PM. The meeting will take place at the Jeffries Yacht Club, 565 Sumner Street, East Boston. The Massachusetts Port Authority will make a presenta- tion about the Con Rac proposal on Maverick Street. BICYCLE SAFETY EVENT -- The Kiwanis Club of East Boston, in Partnership with Boston Police District 7, will hold their Annual Bicycle Safety Day on Saturday, May 15m lOam - lpm. The target is children Kindergar- ten to 5th grade. The event will include giving away free bicycle helmets to the first 300 children, a free raffle for several brand new bicycles, a bicycle safety clinic featur- ing bike safety inspections and optional quick tune-ups, a presentation by the Boston Police K9 Unit, face painting, Music by DJ Kevin Cain, refreshments and much more. Many participants on hand at the event beside the East Boston Kiwanis and District 7 Police will include: Boston Fire Dept, YMCA, EB Social Centers, EB Savings Bank, Kool Smiles, NHP Health Insurance, Sheriffs Dept, New York Life, East Boston High School Key Club and R.O.T.C. The event starts at 10am on Saturday, May 15th in the playground of the Salesians Boys & Girls Club, 150 Byron St, East Boston (former Savio High School). We ran a holiday fair in December and everyone who attended had a good time. We hope to include white elephant, food, handicrafts, baked goods, recycle information, demonstrations such as how to make an ecological terrarium, how to compost and many other surprises. Saturday, June 12, 2010- the MERIDIAN STREET BRANCH LIBRARY will be closing on Saturdays for the sum- mer months. We will be hosting a two hour OPEN HOUSE to let patrons know.
