BOSTON POST-GAZETTE, JUNE 6, 2014 Page15 * News Briefs (Continued from Page 1) Why Does President Seemingly Have a Problem with the Constitution? Reportedly, at a recent Democratic Party fundraiser, President Obama seemed to be telling his moonbat audience that sometimes it seems the U.S. Constitution gets in his way. At times, we have seen him treat the Republican-led U.S. House as a mere irritant. He feck- lessly insults Capitol Hill leaders as getting in the way of the American people. I am not surprised how often he uses executive orders to get around the "balance of power" built into our democratic constitutional republic. In our form of government, no one branch of govern- ment can supercede the other two. Here we have the "consent of the governed." Does he believe in "feder- alism" as devised by our founders? Does he truly believe in both the 9 TM and 11 th amendments to the Constitution?" Sometimes I and others wonder about these very questions. Federalism Took Another Hit in Michigan U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Michigan, 85, who first got elected to Capitol Hill during President Lyndon B. Johnson's landslide over Barry Goldwater in 1964 recently failed to turn enough valid signatures in to gain ballot access for another two-year term. A founder of the Congressional Black Caucus, Conyers went to federal court and U.S. Dis- trict Court Judge Matthew Leitman overruled the state's Secretary of State's office and ordered his name on the ballot calling the error by Conyers simply the "results of good faith mistakes." Conyers had won 25 terms by collecting enough signa- tures. It sounded like stupid mistakes were made this time and a federal judge had to come to his rescue. Does this mean that any candi- date who fails to turn in enough signatures can now use the excuse that it was all a "good faith mistake" too? Reading Rainbow' Returning When my daughter was little she grew up with Mister Rogers, Sesame Street and, little later, Read{n'Rainbow: News is the Rainbow is returning as LeVar also known from Star Trek: The Next Generation, the original host of the popular PBS children's book series has decided to go back to the future bringing the old show back to life. The Right is on the Move in Europe Conservatives are starting to surprise European leaders as they capture votes in a number of Eu}opean Union elections recently. The mood seems clear; Europeans are tired of the same old same old from the Left. The mood is anti-open borders and statist centralized govern- ments. In Britain, a new In- dependent Party is taking votes away from the tradi- tion Tory Party. In France, the Front National Party is doing likewise capturing the attention of frustrated voters. Marine Le Penn is the National Front leader and says, "The Socialist Party is wiped out "and the con- servatives "are in a free fall." The same seems to be happening in Greece and Austria too. Apparently the Strategy has Changed "The prevailing strategy in Afghanistan is based on the classic anti-insurrection doctrine, to build a central government, commit it to the improvement of the lives of its people, and then protect the population until that government's own forces are able with our training to take over ... In a partly feudal, multiethnic society, fundamental social reform is a long process ... The most unambiguous form of exit strategy is victory, though as we have seen in Korea, where American troops have remained since 1953." -- Henry Kissinger, Newsweek, October 12, 2008 Obama's Foreign Policy in One Word President Obama sounding more like a college political science instructor or maybe better, a sociology teacher, told West Point graduates that America must follow international norms? Obama also spoke of hammers and nails before telling them we can't be that concerned over what is happening in the South China Sea. This remark certainly must have gone over big in the People's Republic of China whose eyes have been roving recently. Clay Buchholz Not So Good Over the past few seasons, Clay Buchholz shows some greatness every once in a while, but overall seems like nothing more than a fourth or fifth starter. This season, it is more of the same. I would be surprised if he returned to Fenway next season. His time in Red Sox Nation appears to be near over. Who is Number 2 on Pitching Staff? Pitcher John Lackey appears to be on his way to a very good season looking at his good performance over the first two months of play. At times, he looks even better than team ace don Lester. I still think this team needs one more solid starter. They have had some terrible runs and some great ones too. They need to be more consistent over the long haul if they are to repeat last year's glory. Time will tell here.
