Recently, I heard, the folks EXTRA IRIRgs 'I"-by Sal Giarrataniinsoxthein '60Sa JimmyagainStFund Ic"theexhi_Red, I SrChh.anAHGuano@ $ in charge of naming birds have renamed the Balti- more Oriole, the Eastern Oriole, does this mean the Baltimore Orioles baseball team leading the AL East must also change their team name too? Peavy Finally Gone ::: [[[)) The Red Sox have finally unloaded pitcher dake Peavy to San Francisco in return for two pitching prospects. Peaw was 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA this season over 20 starts is now a member of the Giants organization and we get 22- year-old Edwin Escobar and 25-year-old Heath Hembree. Escobar was 3-8 with a 5. I 1 ERA with Triple A Fresco and Hembree was also in Fresco where he had a 3.89 ERA in 41 games. Overall, Peavy in Boston went 5-10 with a 4.48 ERA in 30 starts. Yaz Thinks Ortiz in Second Place Now Most baby boomers, myself included, think that Carl Yastrzemski is number two on the All-Time Great and is right up there behind Ted Williams as team legendary greats. However, Yaz now reportedly says that Dave Ortiz has surpassed him into second all time best. I still think that Yaz is the all time second best legend on the hometown team. The silver still belongs to Yaz. Braves New World at Cooperstown When Braves pitchers Greg Maddux and Tommy Glavine along with manager Bobby Cox were ushered into the Hall of Fame this past week, they were just the second trio from the same team to be inducted together. Maddux and Glavine Like Spahn and Sain and All the Rain I remember Warren Spahn who began his career as a Boston Braves pitcher. I saw him pitch at Fenway On Sale Now*. I was a bit too TRAINING CAMP WEEK ONE Belichick, Revis After the first full week of Patriots training camp, one thing is clear, starting with cornerback Darrelle Revis, defense owns the headlines. Revis has been nothing short of sensational. His presence on the unit is already turning heads and making head coach Bill Belichick blush with plea- sure. "Excellent coverage skills. Really has great an- ticipation and feel. He's a very smart football player. As good as his physical skills are, I just think instinc- tively that he has a great an- ticipation of the passing LEGAL NOTICE Commonwealth of Massachusetts The Trial Court Middlesex Probate and Family Court 208 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA 02141 Docket No. MI11P2077GD CITATION GIVING NOTICE OF PETITION TO EXPAND THE POWERS OF A GUARDIAN in the interests of DOUGLAS 0. However, as for Maddux and Glavine, I followed their careers closely. Both were your money pitchers you could count on when you needed them to come through for a win. Glavine who hails from Billerica had career stats that were great, 305-203 with a career 3.54 ERA. He was a homeboy and the enshrinement of this trio brings out the best in baseball. La Russa Says Like Clemens and the Rest Hall of Famer baseball manager Tony LaRussa told the NY Post that he thinks those players tarnished from the Hall of Fame over alleged steroid use should not be barred from entry into Cooperstown but thinks they should get that Roger Marls-like asterisk next to their names. I can go along with that idea. What About Pete Rose? Next year, the All Star Game will be in Cincinnati and Major League Baseball is attempting to find a way to let Pete Rose a Cincinnati Reds legend participate in the summer classic. Person- ally, I think it might be time to move on from the past and allow Rose into the Hall of Fame. It doesn't seem right that a guy with 4,000 plus hits can only look into the windows down at the base- ball shrine. All his hits came the old fashioned way without any help from his friends as the Beatles once sang. Rose often was his own worst enemy which never helped him gain too many fans out- side of Cincinnati. 40 th Anniversary for Ford and Mantle This year marks the 40 th anniversary of the in- duction into the Hall of Fame of NY Yankees greats Whitey Ford and Mickey Mantle. They were team- mates from 1953-1967. The pair played on five World Series, with Ford winning 25 games in 1961 and receiving the Cy Young Award. Mantle won three MVPs in 1956-57 and 1961 when he hit 54 homers. and Jones are all smiles during Training Camp. game. Routes and quarter- backs and combinations, those kind of things. A lot of times he kind of runs routes before the receivers run them. He has that kind of anticipation. He's a very sharp football player, a very instinctive player. Probably along the lines of Rodney Harrison, he'd probably be a player who instinctively I would compare him to." Pretty lofty accolades as Harrison helped deliver two Super bowl Championships to the Patriots organization and helped prove that Belichicks 2001 Champion- ship was not fluky. On Sat- urday, in the team's first full pads practice of 2014, Revis schooled Quarterback Tom Brady and the rest of the Pa- triots offense, picking off Brady twice and swatting away a pass intended for re- ceiver Brandon LaFell. On Sunday, Cornerback Brandon Browner brought some Seattle boom to Foxboro and continued to sig- nal in a new era for the defense, when he leveled rookie running back dames LEGAL NOTICE Commonwealth of Massachusetts The Trial Court Middlesex Probate and Family Court 208 Cambridge Street Cambridge, MA 02141 (617) 768-5800 Docket No. MI14P3609EA Estate of FRANCIS X. WITNESS, Hon. EDWARD F. DONNELLY, JR., First Justice of this Court Date: July 14, 2014 Tara E. DeCristofaro, Register of Probate Run date: 8/1/14 White. Though only the first week of camp, the combina- tion of Revis and Browner is bringing an edge that has been lacking on defense since Rodney Harrison and Ty Law roamed the Patriots secondary. The play of the Revis and Browner duo is apparently contagious, as the front seven has also practiced with a chip on its shoulder. On one particular play in one-on-one pass-rush drills, defensive tackle Vince Wilfork completely domi- nated offensive guard Logan Mankins, pushing the guard back and demonstrating ex- cellent footwork which bodes well for Wilfork coming off Achilles surgery. Joining Wilfork is defensive end Chandler Jones who has been abusing tackle Nate Solder in drills. Linebackers Dont'a Hightower and damie Collins have also impressed in the opening stages of camp. If drills are any indi- cation, Hightower may be utilized in the elephant hy- brid role of the down line- man/outside linebacker. Coach Belichick is enjoy- ing camp, which makes the rest of the league wary.
