POST-GAZETTE, AUGUST 3, 2012 Page 9 AS Roma Outplays Liverpool (Contued from Page 1) Exchanging of jerseys, European football returned to Fenway Park on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 to a crowd of 37,169 as Italy's AS Roma took on the Liverpool Football Club. After a scoreless first half, Roma struck twice with goals by Michael Bradley and Alessandro Florenzi. Liverpool answered in the 79 th minute with a goal by Charlie Adam. Since its construction, Fenway Park has hosted 20 soccer matches. The first game was played on May 30, 1931; 8,000 fans were on hand to see the New York Yankees of the American Soccer League beat Celtic 4-3. The Yankees goalkeeper, Johnny Reder, would later return to play for the Boston Red Sox. During 1968, the park was home to the Boston Beacons of the now-defunct NASL. In July 2010 Fenway hosted an exhibition game be- tween European soccer clubs Celtic F.C. and Sporting C.P. in an event called "Football at Fenway." A crowd of 32,162 watched the two teams play to a 1-1 draw. The most recent match took place on July 25, 2012 between Liverpool F.C., an English Premier League club owned by Fenway Sports Group, and AS Roma, an Italian Serie A club.
