Massachusetts Depart- ment of Transportation (MassDOT) Secretary & CEO Richard A. Davey recently announced that MassDOT has selected Normandy Real Estate Partners as the devel- oper of Central Artery Par- cel 9, located on the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Green- way at North and Hanover Dtreets in Boston's emerg- ing Market District. Normandy's proposed de- velopment calls for a 180- room, mid-market hotel and a first-floor food market to complement the adjacent weekly Haymarket Pushcart Association produce mar- ket. Portions of the building will be founded on Central Artery tunnel structures. "After a thorough evalua- tion, we believe this proposal offers the best overall ben- efit to the residents and businesses of Boston, the Market District and the Commonwealth," Davey said. "Along with the cre- ation of the Boston Public Market nearby and the ex- isting Haymarket push- carts, this development will create a new and exciting Market District." Acting with the Governor's Public Market Commission, MassDOT has designated the Boston Public Market Association as the lessee for the ground floor of the adja- cent Parcel 7 building that also houses a garage and Central Artery ventilation building. The Public Market will focus on the sale of Mas- sachusetts grown, landed, and produced produce, fish, and other food products. Davey complemented the BRA and an Advisory Com- mittee of area residents and professionals for their work during the process. "We thank them for their dili- gence and patience," he said. "This was a tough decision, with more than one interesting proposal. We respect the community's (Continued on Page 3) 93 rd Madonna Della Cava Feast Madonna Della Cava Society members. [ RNC Meeting Now in Boston The Republican National Committee is now meeting in Boston at the Westin Harborside Hotel. Boston was selected as the site not only because it is the bluest of all places in America but to honor all the victims of the Marathon Bombings back in April. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is coming and many Republicans are viewing him as a 2016 candidate for president. I personally think he is the establishment candidate along with, many say, Jeb Bush. Right now whenever the likes of U.S. Senator John McCain speaks of real conser- vatives like Rand Paul of Ted Cruz, two so-called Tea Party favorites. I watched Donald Trump on C-Span this past weekend and he hit the nail on the head. If Hillary Clinton is the Democratic candidate in '16, she will be much tougher than President Obama to beat. If Barack could fly by McCain and Mitt Romney, the Republicans have a chance to blow the third presidential race in a row and as Trump said that would be a "bad thing." Kudos to Gingrich I personally do not like Newt Gingrich and would never vote for him for anything, but his remarks in an interview in the Washington Times last Fri- day on the Afghanistan War and the last dozen (Continued on Page 14) i/ i ! !!iiiiiiiiii!iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiili%: i i iiiiiiiiii!i!i!ii!iiiiii!ii!i!i ii !i!// i i!/!!!iii!ililiiiiUF i!ii!iiiii !iiiF : ili!ii:i!iil iii' ....... Menino with their annual "Italian Ameri- can of the Year" award during a presentation at the society's headquarters at Fisherman's Feast to Award Mayor Thomas M. Menino "Italian American of the Year" 9-11 Lewis Street on Thurs- day, August 15 t at 6:00 pm. "We are honored to be able to give this award to the mayor for everything that he has done. He was not only the mayor of this city, but he served as a leader, a role model and a generous indi- vidual to all," said Madonna del Soccorso Society Presi- dent Louis Strazzulo. The award is a decade-long staple of the society's Fisherman's Feast, pre- sented annually to an Ital- ian American who exempli- fies the traditions and val- ues of the Italian American heritage and who has given back to the local Boston com- munity.
