" Page'l 4 ..... "POST;G]qZETTE.'XUG L1,'3" - LO SAPEVATE CHE ... DID YOU KNOW THAT ... Learning languages begins while developing inside the womb, thanks to a 'cadence.' In fact, the newborns acquire the ability by listening to the sounds and to the cadence of languages spoken by their parents. They use this quality the moment they are born, selecting the idioms that sound similar by their cadence to those heard during the preg- nancy. The children of bilingual mothers prefer the mother's language to any other, but they are also capable to discern their differences. A team of researchers at the University of British Columbia have discovered all that. The ability to use rhythmical sounds to distinguish between the various languages is not the only one developed by the newborn, who while growing up uses a variety of perceptions to learn the languages and keep them apart. In a study conducted on children a little older, when soundless videos were shown to them with talking adults, they noticed that children, barely four-months old, could distinguish the languages by watching the lips and the face's motions and with lively interest paid attention when the spoken language changed. At the age of eight-months, the mono- lingual children were unable to do it, but those of bilingual parents were. Children who learn to speak more than one language right from birth, develop crucial skills, thanks to a double vocabulary, developing different ways to solve logical problems and manage different things at the same time. In closing, bilingual children follow a precocious growth from the start of 'executive' functions, show more 'flexibil- ity,' on a cognitive level than the monolingual kids. DeCdstofaro, Register of Probate Run date: 8/16/13 News Briefs (Continued from Page 1) - years of Bush-Obama wars in Iraq and Afghanistan where Americans keep get- ting killed in places that wouldn't know democracy if it crashed into them. These countries and others like Syria and Egypt who are all living in a world five hun- dred years ago are all losers for us especially with our rules of engagement in these wars. Our troops are placed in harm's way and have their hands cuffed. It's time to bring our troops home. Stop trying to secure borders over there and start using our troops to secure borders at home down at the U.S.-Mexico border. McCain and Graham Barking Up Wrong Tree Recently, both U.S. Sena- tors John McCain and Lind- say Graham suggested that the Egyptian Army release members of the Muslim Brotherhood as a gesture to supporters of deposed Presi- dent Morsi to which the Egyptian Army wondered out loud about what if President Obama were chased from office by the U.S. Army. McCain and Graham need to keep their traps shut and butt out of interfering with the internal politics of another nation. How High is the Sky? Did you know that Presi- dent Bush's last budget defi- cit was $162 billion? That is what President Obama in- herited. Today, the annual budget deficit is now $1 tril- lion, 7 times higher than back in 2007. You will never hear this on MSNBC or from the president's lap-dogs in the mainstream media. PRAYER TO ST. JUDE Maythe Sacred Heart of Jesus be adored, glorified, loved and pre- served throughout the world now and forever. Sacred Heart of Jesus pray for us. St. Jude, worker of miracles, pray for us. St. Jude, help of the hopeless, pray for us. Say this prayer 9 times a day and by the 8th day your prayers will be answered. It has never been known to fail. Publication must be promised. My prayers have been answered. A.T.P. Run date: 8/16/13 r Presidential Page One Photo Not I had a good laugh when I picked up the Boston Herald this past Monday morning and saw that front page photo of President Obama on the golf course mucking it up for members of the media follow- ing him around like Arnie's Army. There he was in shorts with those skinny legs of his. In the photo's foreground were two golf balls on the green. There's a good metaphor there but I won't be touching it here. Yuk, yuk, yuk as Curly would say. al-Qaida Didn't Strike Thanks To Obama? Best editorial pages in an American newspaper are found inside each copy of Investors Business Daily. Recently, they took on the closings of our embassies and diplomatic posts in both the Middle East and North Africa. Apparently, the United States had become the tar- get of an imminent terror- ist attack. It never happened and now the liberal media is calling Obama nothing short of a hero because nothing happened. If this attack were really that credible, would Obama have scheduled an appearance on Jay Leno and the Tonight Show? You don't get a gold star for nothing happening. Remember Robert DeNiro and Dustin Hoffman in that 1997 big screen movie Wag the Dog. Did "Bo" put the president up to those closings and is that the real reason that the president had "Bo" flown on his own plane to meet up with the Obama's on the Vineyard? Name Game The National Security Agency is now headed by General Keith Alexander. Can I tell you this? I don't trust people with two first names and I don't trust people who say they read the U.S. Constitution and then totally misunderstand its meaning. This is the guy who seemingly sees nothing unconstitutional or 1984-ish about using the shotgun approach to domestic spying. In a recent Boston Her- ald letter, a writer from Falmouth stated that cutting taxes doesn't create jobs and ends his opine stating, "Then, Obama inherited Bush's mess." This old political play- book should be on the comic strip page, it is so funny. Chris Matthews and Softball How does MSNBC stay on the air? It keeps dropping in the ratings. If Headline News has a bigger audience. Fox News is still number one on cable and its mix of news and opinion is about 50-50. On MSNBC, News to Opinion is about 20-80 percent. This lib- eral network can't even pre- tend to be serious. There is not a serious journalist work- ing on this cable network. Recently, Chris Matthews called U.S. Senators Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Mike Lee a bunch of "political ter- rorists." I can't believe the late U.S. House Speaker Tip O'Neill, Jr., had this guy on his payroll for all those years up on Capitol Hill. What is a Republican? Except for a few years back in the '70s when I was a Republican, I have remained a conservative Democrat. The last time I was a Repub- lican was 1978 when I cam- paigned for talk show host Avi Nelson when he took on incumbent U.S. Senator Edward W. Brook in the 1978 GOP Primary. Brooke won with 52-48 percent margin. That November I voted for Edward J. King for governor and Paul Tsongas for U.S. Senate and then re-regis- tered as a Democrat. Democrats, even far left liberal ones, at least know who they are and what they stand for. Last week while listening to Mark Levin on WRKO, Mark asked the question, "What does a Republican stand for? If they stand for something, when will they stand up for it?"
