A MID-SUMMER MEDITERRANEAN ESCAPE! Cinema Paradiso and Nicostratos Pelican to be Screened at Christopher Columbus Park Mayor Menino's Office of Arts, Tourism and Special Events in partnership with The Italian Consulate, the Greek Consulate, and the French Cultural Center invite you to a mid-summer Mediterranean escape by screening two for- eign films in idyllic Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park. Cinema Paradiso will play on Thursday, August 29th and Nicostratos Pelican will be aired on Friday, August 30a. Both movies will start at 8:00 pm. Cinema Paradiso, released in 1988, is an Italian drama and example of "nostalgic postmodernism". The film is told largely through flashbacks of a successful film director to his childhood years, it also tells the story of the return to his native Sicilian village for the funeral of his old friend, Alfredo. Alfredo serves as a wise father figure to his young friend who only wishes to see him succeed, even if it means breaking his heart in the process. Nicostratos Pelican is the tale of a young Greek boy, Yannis. Following the death of his Mother and strained relationship with his fisherman father, Yannis finds love and friendship one magical summer.
