POST-GAZETTE, SEPTEMBER 16, 2011 Page'5 12 th Annual South Boston Street Festival Gentlemen Hall The South Boston Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the 12  Annual South Boston Street Festival will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on East Broadway, between I and L Streets. Over the past 11 years, the festival has grown significantly. Last year, this event drew over 10,000 resi- dents and visitors to the East Broadway retail districts over the course of the day. This year's festival will feature over 100 local businesses, restaurants, vendors, art- ists and community organizations. Live musical acts and performances will take place on two stages providing festival goers with entertainment throughout the day. Entertainment highlights include: Gentlemen Hall is a synthrock band with catchy hooks and infectious beats. They are winners of the 2011 Billboard Music Awards National Battle of the Bands. MTV awarded the band a VMA in 2009 for "Boston's Best Breakout Artist" and the Boston Phoe- n/x named GH "Bos- ton's Best New Act." Country music artist and American Ayla Brown Idol contestant Ayla Brown will be performing an assortment of her original songs and covers with her band. Ayla is now working on her first country album. Her first release, "Goodbye for Good," is currently standing strong at #1 on's Country Rock, Country Pop and Overall Country charts (www, cdbaby, corn aylabrown). Returning again this year is The Greg Luttrell Band. Greg Luttrell is a singer, guitarist and harmonica player from Detroit, who relocated to Boston, MA and gets around doing performances of all kinds of feel good music. Whether performing with one of many bands or as a solo act, Greg's energy and delivery are a unique experience. Thomas Park, South Boston's own favor- ite cover band, will be performing a wide range of music that includes rock, dance, R&B and top 40. Southie Rock & Roll Revue will per- form featuring former members The Bos- ton Mass, Newsboy, The Usual Suspects and Slocum's Window along with a few special guests. There will also be performances by the Peggy Wood's School of Irish Step Dance, Miss Linda's Dancers and the team from the Ultimate Self Defense and Perfor- mance Center and more! FREE Children's activities will include The New England Aquariums tidal pool inter- active exhibit, face painting, airbrush tattoo artists, caricature artists, balloon twister and other surprises. Street Performers include the magic of Ronny the Clown and Simon Says and Elmo. There will be a fantastic selection of food from Southie's favorite eating establish- ments that will include: The Cranberry Cat6, Cat6 Porto Bello, The Playwright, Boston Beer Garden, The Sausage Guy, Sal's Pizzeria, Pat's Trattoria, Cafe Mamtaz and an introduction from the neighborhoods newest restaurant, The Paramount. WWWJLVOWMUSIC.COM] Saturday Italian School for Children and Adults Registration for the 2011-2012 Saturday Italian School for Children and Adults administered by the PILC (Pirandello Italian Language Center) at St. John's School in the North End of Boston is scheduled for 10:00 am-12:00 noon on Saturday, September 17 m, 2011. Lessons will be held from September to May. Children and adults who wish to enroll in the school must commit to attending from September 2011 to May 2012. All Italian classes meet on Saturdays from i0:00 am to 12:00 noon. The first class will be held on Saturday, September 244 . Children generally start the pro- gram at age 4 and continue through high school (12  grade). Three-year-olds have been able to enroll in the past (many from bilingual households where at least one of the par- ents is a native speaker of Italian) -- please seek permis- sion to do this from the school's directors, whose contact information is provided below. Parents do not remain with their children while the 2-hour class is in session. Enrollment is limited. With few exceptions, all classes are taught by native speakers of Italian.
