The entire 2013 year was dedicated to the Italian Cul- ture in the U.S.A. Through- out the U.S., many important events were sponsored, with the active participation of many Universities. One of these events took place in Washington D.C. Claudio Bisognero, the Italian Ambassador to the U.S., spoke at the 'Air and Space Museum' in presenting the "Codex on the Flight of the Birds," by Leonardo da Vinci, a notebook loaded with detailed graphics in which the Florentine genius prophesized the advent of flight, half a millennium ahead! Bisognero informed the audience that a micro- chip that includes Leo- nardo's work on the birds' flight was sent to the red planet Mars, by the "Rover Curiosity," in August 2012. Leonardo's work consists of 18 pages and was written in the artist's classic style. It's a priceless collection of notes and drawings fore- running the future, as machines and principles on aerodynamics related to the mechanical flight by study- ing the flight and behavior of birds. The Renaissance genius created the docu- ment between the years 1505 and 1506, at the same time he created the "Mona Lisa" masterpiece. The Museum's director, J.R. 'Jack' Dailey stated that the opportunity to exhibit the "Codex" was an honor and a privilege for us to learn about the history of flight by a visionary whose inven- tiveness transcended the time. The fragile document, 21x15 cm. was loaned to the Washington museum by the Royal Library of Turin, Italy where it is stored inside a special teak case. Guarino Patriots Sacks Weakened Vikings in Minnesota In a game that earned Bill Belichick his 200th win as a head coach, his team turned in a domi- nating defensive per- formance, earning the Patriots their first win of 30 the 2014 regular season, 30-7 over the Minnesota Vikings. "Every win feels good. Felt very good. Proud of the way our team played today," said the coach in typical Belichick style, hum- bly gearing praise of his accomplishment towards his players. "I've coached a lot of good football players, those are the guys that win the game, players win games in this league. And I've been fortunate to have the opportunity to coach a lot of good players. This (200th win) is really about them win- ning the games" The game couldn't have played out better for Belichick, as his defense dominated an overpowered and undermanned Vikings squad, which was without the suspended Adrian Peterson. The unit sacked Vikings Quarterback Matt Cassel six times, and picked off four of his passes, while allowing only an opening drive touchdown. However the film reel play of the game will undoubt- edly be Defensive End Chandler Jones' blocked field goal, which he scooped up and returned for a New England touchdown just before the half. Jones, who returned to his more comfortable position of end-of-the-line rusher. Playing as both a down lineman and outside linebacker, he also had two sacks in the game. Cornerback Darrelle Revis shook off a sub-par performance in Miami last week to completely negate Vikings Wide Receiver Greg Jennings who caught only one pass for four yards. In fact on many plays he seemed to know the route the receiver was running. Revis picked up his first intercep- tion as a Patriot on such a play in the sec- ond quarter; he was just in better position than dennings. On a day when their defense was superb, the Patriots offense didn't need to be great. Quarterback Tom Brady completed 15 of 22 passes for a pedestrian 149 yards and one touchdown. "I think we have a lot of work to do, I wish that we could go out there and play like we are capable of. Hopefully we can do a better job this week." said Brady in his post game press conference, A bit of a concern is Brady's reliance on Julian Edelman. 176 of Brady's 398 yards this season have been on completions to Edelman. That's nearly 45 percent of 7 the offenses' passing yards. Brady has been known to go to his comfort receivers in the past, how- ever he needs to be more balanced in dis- tributing the football to his other targets. A reliance on Edelman can only be detrimen- tal to the success of the team going forward. Tight End Rob Gronkowski has 17 catches on the season, but has looked off after two weeks, failing to look, well, like Gronk. Gronkowski may still be recovering from last year's surgery or may have lost some of his explosiveness. This is something to keep an eye on over the next few games. Another, and much more major area of concern was the team's 15 penalties for 163 yards, a continuing trend from their week one loss in Miami. Through the first two games, the Patriots lead the league in pen- alties with 28. Against more talented oppo- nents, the team will have a hard time com- peting if they continue to make what comes down to mental mistakes. They will need to play a smarter brand of football. At 1-1 after two road games, the Patriots will face the Oakland Raiders in their home opener on Sunday. :::~iii~:~:::~i~!i
