Pos'r, GRe,'-NIq'E MBER7, 2010" Page-7 " Due to his increasing popularity and several suggestions from readers (and after much negotiating on our part with his huge salary demands), our friend Freeway has consented to try to answer readers' questions concerning him or any of our little four-legged friends. You can email your questions to postgazette@aol.com to the attention of Freeway. Don't forget folks, Freeway is not a vet, so please keep the questions light-hearted! Thanks. PLEASE JOIN US FOR OUR 6 th HALLOWEEN PARTY FUNDRAISER It is a special fundraiser that my human companion is going to attend at the Knights of Columbus at 545 Medford Street, Charlestown, MA next to the fire station on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 7:00-11:00 pm. This annual fundraiser is being held in memory of my beloved friend Robert Sorrentino, who at the age of four lost his battle with cancer. The name of the fundraiser is "Sorrentino Stompers" because Robert loved the characters from Toy Story. A little boy who had so much to offer in life, his memory has never left our hearts nor my heart or mind since the moment he left us. He will always be remembered as a special gift to us. I can't begin to explain the effect this one child has had on me. I try to understand the concept of a small child having to lose his life to this deadly disease. We con- tinue each year to keep his memory alive and to donate all proceeds to the Jimmy Fund. The Jimmy Fund was founded in 1948 and since then has supported the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston's Dana- Faber Cancer Institute, help- ing raise the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world. Your support will help fund cancer research and treat- ment programs. Anyone in- terested in attending is wel- come. There will be music, appetizers and an opportunity drawing. Costumes are encouraged, but optional. Tickets will be sold at the door. YOUR SUPPORT IS GREATLY APPRECI- ATED AND IT ALL FOR A GOOD CAUSE. Giving support to others is a wonderful feeling! That's all for nowI NEWS STORY Crosby Addresses Business Community at EBCC Dinner Stephen Crosby, Chair of the State's Gaming Commission. On Monday, September 16, 2013, Stephen Crosby, Chair- man of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission at- tended an East Boston Cham- ber of Commerce dinner at by Sal Giarratani Spinelli's Function Room in Day Square to brief locals on the Commission's process for granting a casino license in Massachusetts. Crosby told the 70 folks gathered that "What the state wanted was intense and robust competition. So the legislature set up a com- petitive process that is unparallel anywhere else in the U.S." He also explained how it was done in order for the state to get the best proposals for community mitigation, jobs, economic development and environ- mental sustainability. Ac- cording to Crosby, each pro- posal would be judged on those criteria. Right now in eastern Mas- sachusetts there are three proposals, the Caesar's Casino at Suffolk Downs, Steven Wynn's Casino in Everett and Foxwoods Casino down in Milford on the Rhode Island border. Before the dinner started outside in Day Square about 20 members of the "NO Eastie Casino" held signs fighting the East Boston casino at Suffolk Downs led by Celeste Myers. The intense and robust compe- tition for a casino site seemed matched outside Spinelli's by an intense and robust opposition to the casino. The date of the casino vote as we speak is still Tuesday, November 5 m, Election Day in Boston. The Boston City Council voted 11-2 on Wednesday, September 25 th to hold an East Boston-only vote on the Suffolk Downs casino. Vocal opposition in Day Square by members of the "NO Eastie Casino." Jordan Reynoso of Stoneham, MA attended his fixst Boston Bruins game recently and was fortunate enough to meet up with Bruins Mascot Blades.
