I have already criticized Somerville Mayor Joe Curta- tone for hanging that "Black Lives Matter" banner across Somerville City Hall, and for his support of Somerville being a Sanctuary City for illegals. Recently, I listened to Jeff Kuhner on his weekday WRKO radio show and discovered that Somerville's mayor was at it again. This time, he is seeking the Middlesex District Attorney's office to drop all charges against the "Black Lives Matter" crowd for bringing highway traffic to a complete stop in order to do their protesting. Jeff Kuhner has started refer- ring to Somerville's mayor as "Joe Curtaphony" and likening him to a liberal thug. As a former East Somerville resident back in my twenties, I remember when the liberals in Somerville got behind a reformer named S. Lester Ralph who was quite the '60s and '70s liberal. The old guard was caught off base and Ralph got himself elected in 1969 by being Door Number 3. Mayor Ralph always got my vote in his races. However, as liberal as Ralph seemed to be, he never would have supported lawbreakers, whatever their cause. The law is the law k't:.the taw. As a retired police officer of more than 27 years, I think a mayor who thinks folks should walk because he supports their cause as just and good does indeed qualify, as Kuhner calls him, as nothing but a phony. I am not surprised that the mayor is trying to get all charges dropped against this protest- ing outfit out to get cops. He already has his sanctuary city, so why not aid and abet more criminals? He seems to condone and booster "Black Lives Matter" friends with his own provocative anti-police rhetoric, If one commits an act of civil disobedience, that person is supposed to suffer the civil pen- alty for doing so. When a bunch of protesters decide to endan- ger and inconvenience thou- sands and flock to the media with their charges, should they just be able to walk away as if nothing happened? I don't care what the mayor thinks. I don't care what he says. This is a free country and he has those rights. However, glorifing these pro- testers and then being critical of police actions across the country does make him sound like the phony Jeff Kuhner calls him. As a police officer for a very long time, doesn't the mayor know the value of police for keeping our country safe for all? There is a thin blue line out there under attack by phony protesters who have an agenda to push. Mayors should support their police departments and not rev up the anti-police rhetoric in order to look like a good liberal. Happy Columbus Day 2015 Green Cross Pharmacy FARMACIA CROCE VERDE J.
