POST-GAZETTE, OCTOBER 11,2013 Page 7 You can email your questions to to the attention of Freeway. Don't forget folks, Freeway is not a vet, so please keep the questions light-hearted! Thanks. I can't believe Halloween is here already. Here are a few tips for my pooch friends. No tricks, no treats: that bowl full of candy is for trick-or-treaters not for us pooches. Chocolate in all forms can be dangerous for dogs and cats and tin foil and cellophane candy wrappers can be hazardous if swal- lowed. A carved pumpkin certainly is festive, but exercise extreme caution if you choose to add a candle. Pets can easily knock a lit pumpkin over and cause a fn'e. If you dress up your pet, make sure the costume isn't annoying or unsafe. It should not constrict the animal's movement or hear- ing or impede his or her abil- ity to breathe or bark. Keep a lookout for small, dangling or easily chewed-off pieces on the costume that your pet could choke on. All but the most social dogs and cats should be kept in a separate room during peak trick-or- treat visiting hours. Too many strangers can be scary and stressful for pets. ID please! Always make sure your dog or cat has proper identification. If for any reason your pet escapes and becomes lost, a collar and tags and/or microchip increase the chances that he or she will be returned to you. To all my pooch friends and their companions, stop by the Post-Gazette, 5 Prince Street, North End, Boston on Wednes- day, October 30 or Thursday, October 31 st from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and pick up a doggie Halloween treat bag. Costumes encouraged! To ALL my readers and es- pecially my friends at the Post-Gazette, have a Happy Halloween and keep safe. BlOCkby Sal GiarrataniParty for Casino Big Hit The Ruggiero house party was well attended with both supporters and undecideds enjoying the afternoon together. A house party was hosted by Joe Ruggiero in Orient Heights on Saturday, Septem- ber 28 th and over that summer-like after- noon, dozens showed up for a great get-to- gether and gave them the opportunity to chat with Chip Tuttle from Suffolk Downs who stopped by during the house party. The house party was held between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm and I asked Ruggiero if it resumed from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm but he just laughed at that bad undertaker joke. As Ruggiero stated, "It was great to have Chip and others from Suffolk Downs attend the BBQ."
