This past week Dress For Success teamed up with W.net for women's network- ing event held at Diane von Furstenberg on Newbury Street. It was an evening filled with high end shop- ping, business chat, cock- tails and warmth from giv- ing back to charity. I have been a Dress For Success fan since I was first exposed to their cause dur- ing fashion week 2012, but was introduced to W.net for the first time and thought maybe best to give everyone the low down on just who they are. The Women's Network in Electronic Transactions (W.net} is the premiere elec- tronic transactions organi- zation dedicated solely to women in the field. W.net's goal is to provide a forum to inspire and empower women in the electronic transactions industry through networking opportunities, mentoring programs, and the overall promotion of women by enabling them to maximize their potential and position them for greater success. Dress For Success is an international not-for-profit organization that promotes the independence of disad- vantaged women by provid- ing them with professional attire, a network of support, and career development tools. Y.E.S.I mem- bers promote the mission of Dress For Success through volunteering and fundraising events that take place dur- ing off/after hours. It was such a treat to hear about yet another organiza- tion that promotes the suc- cess of business women. The speech made by Dress For Success's Executive Director Kimberly Todd was heartwarming and to hear about the amount of work volunteers put into that charity, has made it my favorite! To close the pre- sentation, the stylist on site, Drew, gave us an informal show on the latest Furst- enberg line and some in- sight on just what a wonder- ful career she has had. Diane yon Furstenberg is a global luxury lifestyle brand and one of the premier names in American fashion that was founded in 1972 by the designer. Renowned for iconic wrap dresses and signature prints, DVF has expanded to a full collection of ready-to-wear and acces- sories including shoes, handbags, small leather goods, scarves and fine jew- elry. In 2012, its Founder and Co-Chairman Diane yon Furstenberg was named the most powerful woman in fashion by Forbes Magazine. The chic vibe you get from the power white walls with strong print products, I couldn't argue with that title. After all the introductions we were set free to shop with a 20% discount with 10% of the proceeds going to Dress For Success. Throughout my mingling I was not surprised to see CEO/Founder Maria Paola from the brand new "The Women Of Boston" business network on site to choose their charity none other than Dress For Suc- cess. However, it was inter- esting to meet sisters and chief creative directors Candace (style guru) and Rachel (finance officer) Wilkes from "the Help Bos- ton." They are personal con- cierges, but are also so much more -- offering a wide variety of services, tai- lored to your every need. From running your errands to updating your wardrobe, service had just opened in the city and Samantha had homemade baby quiche, a movie and champagne deliv- ered for their girl's night in! Good luck ladies the Hub can always use a little "Help". All in all, the night was fan- tastic: from the networking to the glamorous designs and the true reason of the season, giving back. Diane yon Furstenberg donated not only a percent of the pro- ceeds from the evening but $2,500 dollars in cloths to Dress For Success. On Friday, December 6a in the North End of Boston from 6:00 pm-ll:00 pm for a shopping extravaganza! Get all of your holiday shop- ping done LOCALLY!
